Job purpose

We are seeking a collaborative and experienced Project Manager with a background in the veterinary sector/healthcare sector and expertise in Quality Improvement (QI).

This is a hands-on role for a team-player who combines project management with direct delivery. You will be responsible for managing multiple projects, advising on direction, coordinating and collaborating with stakeholders. You will ensure high-quality outputs while actively contributing to the work itself, including developing resources, reviewing and analysing data and managing engagement activities.

You will support others by sharing expertise, building capacity, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. You will be a visible advocate for QI, building strong relationships across the sector and communicating with clarity, empathy and credibility.

Key responsibilities

Manage the delivery of key initiatives under the themes of QI, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and contextualised care, including to :

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Manage events, deliver presentations, and work with the communications team on other promotion and awareness activities.
  • Monitor and report on project outcomes and impact, ensuring transparency and continuous learning.
  • Support the development of learning resources and campaign materials that reflect diverse needs and perspectives.
  • Explore innovative approaches to income generation and contribute to funding applications that align with our charitable purpose.
  • Line management, providing mentorship, performance management, and professional development.
  • Manage procurement, negotiation, and delivery of work with external partners and contractors.
  • Manage governance committees and working groups.

 

Other

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that encourages innovation and calculated risk-taking.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with veterinary professionals, practices, and external partners.
  • Represent RCVS Knowledge at events, conferences, and webinars, acting as a visible ambassador for our values and mission.
  • Champion evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) principles across all projects and outputs.
  • Ensure all resources and communications are underpinned by robust evidence and reflect our commitment to integrity.
  • Work with the communications team to ensure webpages and digital content are accurate, inclusive, and engaging.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the objectives of the post.

 

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in project management and using project management techniques and tools, including Gantt charts and structured planning approaches.
  • Experience working within the veterinary or healthcare industry/sector.
  • Line management experience.
  • Applied knowledge in a practical setting of Quality Improvement.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and relate well to people at all levels.
  • Emotional intelligence – you listen, empathise and build trust with others.
  • MS Office literate and able to adapt to new software quickly.
  • Numerical literacy with the ability to interpret data and use data to demonstrate impact.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in all aspects of work.

 

Desirable

  • MRCVS/RVN or equivalent veterinary qualification.
  • Experience working in veterinary practice.
  • Applied knowledge of EBVM, clinical audit, antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Experience in data analysis.
  • Experience in impact reporting.
  • Experience managing awards or recognition programmes.
  • Experience applying for and delivering grant-funded or industry-sponsored projects.
  • Experience using Power BI and data visualisation.
  • Experience of the research and peer-review process. For example, publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
